In the tech industry, there are legacy terms commonly used in code and documentation that are racist, ableist, or sexist (or all three). In my roles, I have helped launch initiatives to identify and remove those words and phrases so that our inclusion practices extend to everyone interacting with our code and reading our documentation. These initiatives are always a work in progress, and we learn from other orgs along the way. I will share examples of language we are looking to eliminate and the inclusive alternatives; challenges we’ve encountered; and resources you can use to tackle this in your org.
